Cats in Sweden: rules and travel
Dogs and cats must be permanently marked and registered with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, and owners are strictly liable for damage their dog causes. Dogs must be kept from running loose in wildlife areas from 1 March to 20 August.
Local councils add leash rules, for example always-leash areas in towns and parks.
Registration and microchip
The Act 2007:1150 text says cats must be marked and registered with Jordbruksverket. Start date for cats not confirmed.[2]
Keeping rules
A cat that appears abandoned or feral may be killed by the hunting rights holder, and inside built-up areas police permission is needed (section 21). Owners must keep cats under supervision so they cause no nuisance.[2]
Travelling to Sweden with a cat
Non-commercial moves follow Regulation (EU) No 576/2013 with a maximum of five dogs, cats or ferrets.[3]
