Registration and microchip
Owners must register their dogs once a year at an authorised veterinary clinic in their place of permanent residence, under the Law on Protection and Welfare of Animals.[2]
Leash and muzzle
Dogs must be on a lead in public places unless the place allows dogs to run free with owners. The fine for no lead is 10 to 15 EUR.[2]
Other rules
A sign must be shown at the entrance where a dog is kept, with a fine of 10 to 15 EUR if missing. Unregistered litters carry the same fine.[2]
After an unprovoked attack a dog is assessed and given a socialisation test, can be seized for retraining, and is put down if it cannot be rehabilitated. The law provides a register of dangerous dogs, but the paper says none is kept.[2]
Travelling to North Macedonia with a dog
Pets need an ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination and a health certificate from the origin country vet. An EU pet passport is accepted as proof of vaccination, and no titre test is needed from rabies-controlled countries.[1]
The same microchip, rabies and certificate rules apply. A rabies titre test is needed from other countries, taken at least 30 days after vaccination and at least 3 months before travel. The US APHIS page also says pets not going directly or via listed countries need a titre test.[1]
Not required from EU-classified rabies-controlled countries, required from other countries (blood sample 30 days after vaccination and 3 months before travel).[1]
Internal parasite treatment, especially for Echinococcus multilocularis, and external treatment are listed as required and can be recorded on the health certificate.[1]
No quarantine if all requirements are met. Non-compliant pets may be quarantined or sent back at the owner's cost. No import permit for a personal pet. Number limit not stated.[1]
