Cats in Montenegro: rules and travel

Dogs classed as dangerous must be kept under a national Rulebook. Visitors bringing pets to Montenegro face the same rules as in EU countries, and the EU is moving to drop the rabies titre test for pets coming from Montenegro.

Municipalities set local rules such as leash zones and any dog fees, and none were found online.

Travelling to Montenegro with a cat

From an EU country

The EU delegation in Montenegro says visitors bringing pets to Montenegro face the same rules as in EU countries, so the EU pet travel rules (microchip, rabies vaccination, passport or health certificate) are the guide.[1]

From outside the EU

A US health certificate template for Montenegro lists: a microchip (or a tattoo applied before 3 July 2011), rabies vaccination with 21 days since a first vaccination, a certificate signed by an official vet valid for 10 days, an owner declaration, entry via a border veterinary inspection point, and at most five animals unless they are for shows or competitions.[2]

Rabies antibody test

The template includes a titre option (0.5 IU/ml or more, sampled at least 30 days after vaccination and 3 months before entry) for pets from some origins. Which origins need it is not confirmed.[2]

Not confirmed yet: Registration, Microchip, Quarantine. We only show what an official or named source states.

Laws change: this is general information, not legal advice. The authority linked on each line has the final word.
