The dog must be fitted with a transponder by a vet at the latest six months after birth.[2]
Dog tax and licence
No general Sachkunde duty for ordinary dogs. A Sachkundeprüfung is needed only by keepers of dangerous dogs.[2]
Insurance
Liability insurance is compulsory for every dog: at least 1 million EUR for personal and property damage and 50,000 EUR for other financial loss, in place at the latest three months after the dog's birth.[2]
Leash and muzzle
The HundeG contains no general leash duty; leash and muzzle duties apply to dangerous dogs. Municipalities can order further restrictions under the state public order law.[2]
